Detroit PAL Diamond Sports Opening Day
Detroit PAL Diamond Sports Opening Day was a success! Diamond Sports was held on Saturday, June 8th begining at 9:30 AM at Maheras-Gentry Park. Thank you to DTE Energy Foundation, Detroit Tigers Foundation and Orchard's Children Services for making it possible for us to serve more than 1400 Detroit kids in diamond sports on clean and safe fields! Tim Richey, Detroit PAL CEO kicked off the event at 9:30 AM with opening remarks. Guest speakers of sponsoring organizations, DTE Energy Foundation, Detroit Tigers Foundation and Orchard's Children's Services each spoke about the importance of building character through sports, changing the lives of so many young people, and had an important message for each kid to just have fun. Detroit PAL Alumnus, Shannon Davis, was also in attendance and had a special message to the young ladies of Detroit PAL. "I want to pursue more young female athletes to continue to participate in sports," said Shannon. "They need to know the importance of youth sports and I am here to help with that." We want to send a special thank you to UnitedHealthcare Community Plan, Jefferson Chevrolet and James Martin Chevrolet who sponsored our Opening Day festivities.
