That’s why we have the D. Duane Hurtt Student Athlete Resource Center (SARC) at Think Detroit PAL.  The Center aims to provide students with the academic support and college and career planning resources that will help them set goals outside of the athletic arena.

Mid-America Cup College Showcase Champions

The Detroit Diesel (U15) arrived in Peoria, Illinois on Friday evening with only 10 of the 11 players need for a full team.  The team was registered in the 14th annual Mid-America Cup - College Showcase.  One hundred sixty eight teams from at least seven Midwest States participated in the tournament over the weekend.  

Rather than forfeit, the team played shorthanded and won every game with outstanding teamwork, guts and skill.

Student Athlete Resource Center

According to the NCAA, less than 0.5% of all student-athletes who play in high school will go on to play professional sports.  Statistically speaking, that means of the 12,000 children who participate in Think Detroit PAL programs this year, only six of them will become professional athletes.  Only a slightly higher number receive full scholarships to participate in college athletics.  So, the other
